Rookie Steph Curry Tried to Trash Talk Kobe Bryant and Got Sonned

Published on Sat, Feb 6th 2016 Entertainment Rectangular HD

When Kobe Bryant retires at the end of this season, he will obviously leave the game of basketball as one of the greatest NBA players of all time. But he will also walk away from the court knowing that he was one of the best trash-talkers in the business at the height of his career. In fact, he was so good when it came to trash-talking that, at times, he could win wars of words with opposing players without ever opening his mouth. Steph Curry explained how during a recent interview with GQ. Back when he was a rookie, Curry made the mistake of trying to talk some trash to Kobe right before the Black Mamba took two free throws during a Lakers/Warriors game. And rather than even responding to the youngster, Curry claims that Kobe gave him a look that let him know he was not the one to mess with. "Our rookie year we were playing at Oracle and they had a 3-point lead down the stretch," Curry told GQ. "He got fouled, going to the free throw line to ice the game with two free throws. As he’s walking from one end of the court to the other, I’m this rookie that’s just kind of living in the moment and I walk up to him as he’s walking to the free throw line: 'Hey, man, you nervous about these free throws?' The look he gave me was so just mean and cold. Just like, 'What are you talking about? Get out of my face, you dumb rookie.' He obviously made the two free throws and they won. I’ll remember that look he gave me forever." Add this to the pile of legendary Kobe trash-talk stories. Curry is good at a lot of things, but trash-talking with a legend like Kobe? Nah.
